Research Focus

Dr. Cerrai's research spans from fundamental investigation of precipitation microphysics to applied research related to weather impact modeling, resilience, renewable energy, and energy justice. Dr Cerrai is PI or Co-PI in several research and development projects funded by private companies and federal agencies, including Eversource Energy, Avangrid, Exelon, Dominion Energy, ISO-New England, NYCHA, NASA, NSF, EPA, and DoE. Specific projects include:

  • Power outage prediction modeling for electric transmission and distribution systems,
  • Power outage restoration modeling and optimization,
  • Grid resilience assessment,
  • Wildfire ignition modeling,
  • Electricity demand prediction,
  • Renewable energy integration forecasting,
  • Vegetation uprooting prediction,
  • NASA GPM Ground validation of wintry precipitation measurements,
  • Support to Environmental Justice (EJ) communities.
