ASCE Future Leaders Internship Night Connects Over 100 Students with Industry Leaders

The 2025 ASCE Future Leaders Internship Night was a great success, bringing together over 100 UConn Civil and Environmental Engineering students and a record number of companies for an evening of professional networking, career preparation, and alumni engagement.

Employers praised the strong turnout and student preparedness. Sam, a UConn alumna from HW Lochner, remarked that she collected more resumes at Internship Night than at the UConn STEM Career Fair. Samuel Ulfsson, a UConn alumna now working at Solli Engineering, noted that they prefer receiving paper resumes and were impressed with how ready students were to share theirs.

In addition to networking, the night highlighted UConn’s strong alumni network, with graduates including Jackie Torlai and Rocco Veneruso returning to connect with current students.

Special thanks go to Christo Jamo, Ben Shatzel, and the ASCE officers, whose efforts made the event a great success.

About UConn ASCE

The UConn student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) meets regularly to provide social and networking opportunities for Civil Engineering students. The organization creates connections between students, faculty, and industry professionals, helping students grow both academically and professionally.

Events include:

  • Resume reviews with members of the Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers (CSCE).
  • Professional talks featuring engineers from local companies who discuss their roles and internship opportunities.
  • Networking socials and community activities that bring students together outside the classroom.

Through these activities, UConn ASCE prepares its members to succeed as the next generation of civil engineering leaders.

UConn ASCE Future Leaders Internship Night

Each spring, UConn ASCE hosts Future Leaders Internship Night, an opportunity for students to connect directly with employers in the civil engineering field. Students are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume, dress in business casual attire, and take advantage of a night dedicated to professional growth.

Companies Attending in 2025 included:

  • Garg Consulting Services, Inc.
  • Stantec
  • Langan Engineering & Environmental Services
  • WSP USA
  • HW Lochner

Events like Internship Night highlight the value of UConn ASCE as more than just a student organization - it's a bridge between the classroom and the professional world. By connecting students with alumni, employers, and one another, ASCE fosters a supportive community where future civil engineers can build lasting relationships, gain practical career insight, and take their first steps toward becoming leaders in the field.
