UConn Team Earns Grant to Further Research Crumbling Foundation Problem
Crumbling foundations are a debilitating problem in the northeastern region of Connecticut. This is due to high levels of pyrrhotite, an iron sulfide mineral that can react with oxygen and water and cause the concrete used to make foundations and basement walls to swell and crack. UConn will continue to seek solutions to Connecticut's collapsing foundation crisis, thanks to federal support received by Connecticut’s Congressional delegation.
