The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering is proud to congratulate Associate Professor Nicholas Lownes, P.E. on his appointment as a Castleman Professor of Engineering Innovation in the UConn College of Engineering.
Established to recognize outstanding faculty members who exemplify excellence in research, education, and outreach, the Castleman Professor of Engineering Innovation appointment honors faculty whose leadership and contributions have made a lasting impact on the College and the engineering profession. In this role, Lownes will also help mentor junior faculty and graduate students while advancing the mission of both the School and the University.
Lownes serves as Associate Professor, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director of Transportation & Urban Engineering, and Associate Director of Construction Management. His research focuses on public transportation systems, network modeling, traffic microsimulation, and public transportation economics, with work that helps improve the efficiency, accessibility, and resilience of transportation networks.
This appointment recognizes Lownes' continued dedication to engineering innovation, student success, and impactful research that serves communities throughout Connecticut and beyond.
